Our Philosophy

For WEAVE, weaving is not merely a metaphor, but our core participatory methodology. Just as threads gain strength when woven together, we connect students, educators, artists, and local communities to co-create outcomes that no single party could achieve alone.

Both inside and outside the classroom, we bring diverse fields of knowledge, lived experiences, and cultural backgrounds into meaningful dialogue, translating inclusion from abstract theory into experiential practice. For us, "weaving" means building lasting relationships of trust: between diversity and belonging, between education and social justice, and between today's school reality and the school we envision.

We approach education as a dynamic space of critical inquiry, reciprocal exchange, and active citizenship. Using non-formal and experiential learning methodologies, we transform the classroom into a space of discovery where knowledge no longer flows in a single direction.

We equip students and educators with the tools to challenge prejudices, address systemic inequalities, and understand the world through collective experience. We do not view education merely as a passive transfer of knowledge, but as an essential space for cultivating shared values, critical thinking, and social inclusion.

For us, art is not decorative; it is a strategic tool for intervention, empathy, and practice-based social change. Through a broad spectrum of practices — from visual arts and theatre to cinema and photography — we give form to stories that often remain invisible. We activate art on two interconnected levels:

Participatory classroom workshops: creative practice becomes a catalyst for dialogue and empathy. Collaborative visual arts projects enable children from diverse backgrounds, including reception facilities and vulnerable communities, to meet school peers and explore notions of identity, acceptance, and belonging.

Audiovisual production & educational tools: we develop films, documentaries, and creative works, both alongside youth and in collaboration with professional filmmakers. Addressing themes such as disability, forced displacement, gender equality, and social marginalisation, these works travel to festivals and return to classrooms as pedagogical tools.

Every school community is built on diverse voices, yet not all carry equal weight in practice. Youth from migrant and refugee backgrounds, minorities, LGBTQI+ individuals, children with disabilities, and students from underprivileged socioeconomic backgrounds frequently face systemic barriers to visibility. For us, inclusion demands genuine agency.

We do not speak on behalf of others. Through oral history workshops, creative writing, and digital storytelling, we place microphones and cameras directly into the hands of young people. We create safe school spaces where personal narratives evolve into collective memory, stereotypes are dismantled, and every young person is empowered to author their own story.

Equality serves as the overarching umbrella uniting all our core values: inclusion, anti-racism, gender justice, and solidarity. Grounded in a human-rights-based framework, we believe every child and young person has the fundamental right to participate, contribute, and belong without leaving any part of their identity at the door.

Rejecting passive tolerance, we actively dismantle structural barriers to access and combat discrimination reproduced within the educational system. Through education, culture, and collective action, we foster safe school environments where origin, gender, disability, or social class cease to create divides, becoming instead the vital threads strengthening our shared social fabric.
